Abstract
A Web Based Learning Environment (AABW) is designed and evaluated to improve critical reading skills, in eleventh grade students in a school in Bogotá Colombia. The potential of this strategy is its formulation under the current Colombian guidelines ICFES (2019). It is a quasi-experimental research with a control group and an experimental one, in both, the AABW is implemented, but in the last group, metacognitive activities are also incorporated to develop better learning. The evaluation includes two instruments applied in pre-test and post-test, one to identify metacognitive skills (MAI) and the other is a standardized test called SABER 11 released by the Colombian government to assess critical reading skills. It can be concluded that the AABW allowed the improvement of metacognitive skills in students as well as critical reading skills.
