Abstract
Today many couples have decided not to have children, and have adopted pets instead. The research focuses on identifying the influence of the pet on family dynamics. All this is seen from the perspective of three young couples, without children, from the municipality of Sevilla Valle. The type of research is descriptive with a cross-sectional research design. To collect the information, the structured interview and the genogram were used. Through this means, it was possible to know the influence of the pet on communication and cohesion, as well as its role within the couple. It was also possible to identify the motivations that led these three couples to prefer to adopt a pet instead of having children. The couples who participated in the research perceive their pet as an element that exerts great influence within the family, becoming a facilitator of cohesion and communication. The role played by the pet within the families studied is that of a child and as such has clear and defined rules within the home.
