Abstract
The present investigation was carried out in order to know what are the stereotypes are and their impact on the self-esteem of adolescents, for this purpose the instruments were applied to five (5) young people, between 16 and 20 years of age residing in the municipality of Roldanillo and who perform physical exercise regularly, who from the Coopersmith Self-concept questionnaires, Body Image Questionnaire and semi-structured interview reported how their stereotypes of beauty and self-esteem were shaped based on research by Hernández Montecino (2016) and Itziar Varela (2020) that address the issue of stereotypes and ideals of beauty and Rodríguez (1988) on Self-esteem taking the postulates of Abraham Maslow.
It was found that many of the participants have felt improvements in their self-esteem from physical exercise and healthy eating and that some alterations in their mental health are related to their family ties and interaction with their peers.
