Abstract
The objective of this work is to diagnose the situation of the company to face the reduction in demand and the environmental demands of the paper sector and its derivatives in the face of foreign trade. At a methodological level, a descriptive type study is used in which it addresses the structure and behavior of the sector, describes the factors that affect the performance of each company and identifies the possible strategies undertaken. As information collection techniques, the documentary review was used, where academic studies, scientific articles and sectorial reports were consulted as official. The results allowed to identify that the productive chain of pulp, paper and graphic industry ranges from the chemical pulp made from wood or cane bagasse, to the production of paper and the production of printers and publishers. When reviewing the behavior, it was identified that the transformation of the sector, more than a problem, has been the result of a series of situations that have affected both the production and the marketing of paper products and derivatives. In Colombia, it is considered that the free trade agreements signed with different countries have generated a change for companies, because new competitors have entered, likewise, there has been a radical change in consumer habits. Similarly, the sector of paper and its derivatives shows that companies have managed to consolidate over the years, especially their specialization and economy of scale has generated that the industry is highly concentrated, especially in nine, which stand out for their size, variety of products and production schemes with ample capacity to meet internal demand. Considering the above, it is concluded that the dynamics of the markets and in particular the demand for paper and derivatives has led companies to specialize more and more in products with an efficient cost structure that allows them to have competitive prices without affecting their profitability, in order to To achieve this, companies have invested in a constant technological transformation.
