Abstract
Biosafety is defined as the set of preventive measures, aimed at maintaining control of occupational risk factors from biological, physical or chemical agents, achieving the prevention of adverse effects, ensuring that the development or final product of said procedures does not threaten the health and safety of healthcare workers, patients, visitors and the environment (1). The University of the Andes is recognized for its academic and infrastructure excellence. Within its facilities, some departments have accommodation and animal experimentation places that contribute to scientific knowledge, studies of diseases, and potential tests of treatments, among others. Nevertheless, the development of these projects brings with it a series of potential risks both physical and infectious to health derived from animals; these are classified as direct and indirect and, as they have a classification, intervention, and control measures are considered that allows minimizing the probability of occurrence of unfortunate events such as workplace accidents, occupational diseases, and environmental pollution. This project aims to collect those main determining factors for the harmonious development of research work, serve as a reference for the approval of research projects and that in turn promote the responsible and ethical management of bio-models, as well as their final disposition considering the environment as an external factor involved, act as administrative control against the biological hazard based on GTC 45 and the Sole Regulatory Decree of the Labor Sector 1072 of 2015
