Abstract
Transgender women, those whose gender identity, gender expression, or behavior does not conform to that generally associated with the sex they were assigned at birth, constitute a poorly visible population segment of society. They are frequently subjected to multiple forms of violence, usually generated by prejudices and misconceptions.
