Abstract
The human being in his identity construction is really complex, and self- esteem plays a fundamental role for this construction. This research aims to analyze the global self-esteem and its five dimensions, in a population of 145 boys and girls, second grade students of elementary school, with ages ranging between six and eight years. We worked with one hundred percent of the four courses of the institution, whose members belong to a low socioeconomic level. It is a public school in the city of Bogotá, Colombia. The purpose of the research is to analyze and describe the levels of self-esteem in each of the five dimensions (corporal, personal, academic, social and family), which EDINA evaluates. This instrument is composed of twenty one items, with a reliability of 0.803 in Cronbach's alpha. The analysis that was applied was univariate and the results indicated that global self-esteem is high as well as four of its five dimensions.
