Abstract
This document details the design of a hydraulic tool to assemble a wedge and help in the maintenance of the Caterpillar 777F-G equipment, in the Permanent Workshops of the
“Carbones del Cerrejón Limited” mine. The first part develops the general specifications required by the machine, discusses the space limits, some maximum and minimum
dimensions and a brief review of the parts that will make up the machine. The parts are designed with the help of SOLIDWORKS finite element analysis software. The results
obtained in each analysis allow us to check the correct design of each part and ensure a good safety factor, as well as to find critical points; this second instance can be considered
the main part of the project. Then, the selection process of other mechanical elements in the machine, such as bearings, fasteners and hydraulic components, is described. A brief
financial analysis is also developed, and finally, conclusions and recommendations are presented at the end of the design and of this document.
