Abstract
The present study addresses adolescents and their family in order to describe the family environment and parenting styles that affect the proclivity of psychoactive substance consumption in adolescents in the Municipality of Bolívar Valle. In that respect, the environment can strengthen a positive family structure or weaken the relationships between them, to the point of making them non-existent or intolerable or very absorbing and even pathological, which is why parenting patterns influence. Theoretically, it is based on (Baumrind), who proposes a look at parental styles and takes into account the interrelation of basic paternal variables such as control, the degree of communication and emotional involvement as well as (Musitu, 2016). In the same way, it addresses Moos's Theory of Social Climate. Methodologically, it has a qualitative, descriptive approach that uses the semi-structured interview technique with 40 questions applied to 4 adolescents to collect information. As a result, there is no parenting style that demonstrates effectiveness. However, it is necessary that the family environment where children are raised is permeated with basic elements such as love, respect, tolerance; being aware of their limits, rules and norms, under a representative figure of authority or guide that at the same time demonstrates trust and brotherhood.
