The NMDA receptor is involved in various physiological processes such as memory, synaptic plasticity, and signal transmission. It has been proven that dysfunction, inhibition, or overactivation of the NMDA receptor leads to various pathologies including Alzheimer's, cerebral ischemias, depression, and schizophrenia, among others. Experimental and clinical research suggests that peptides found in the venom of certain animals can modulate NMDA receptor activity and could be effective in treating these diseases. In this work, we conducted an exhaustive literature review on peptides that have been demonstrated through electrophysiology to modulate receptor activity
