Abstract
Gender-based violence is the exercise of violence that reflects the existing asymmetry in power relations between men and women, since it is violence exercised by those who possess or believe they possess legitimated power from a position of domination. This asymmetry of power in the relations between men and women is defined by the feminine and masculine genders, socially constructed, constantly affected by the
social power imposed by a type of femininity and masculinity, which, in turn, define differentiated
behaviors and attitudes and that affect the whole of social life.
