Abstract
Acute diarrheal disease is a disease that is generally infectious in boys and girls and
presents with an increase in the number of stools and a decrease in their
consistency. This disease causes high rates of infant morbidity and mortality,
especially in indigenous communities, where the social determinants of health are
not favorable. From this context, this work aims to identify the knowledge, attitudes
and practices of caregivers of children under 5 years of age with acute diarrheal
disease, in indigenous communities with the purpose of knowing what is happening
inside those communities. against disease. The methodological route was a
narrative review of the literature to investigate, from the experience of other
researchers, about this knowledge, attitudes and practices. The results of this review
indicate that there are indeed unfavorable social determinants that include poverty,
low educational levels, the absence of basic services and poor hygiene habits. In
the same way, the knowledge, attitudes and practices for the management of
children's diarrhea will increasingly be found, incorporating elements of classical
medicine and traditional medicine. It is concluded that government public policies
are insufficient to combat the disease.
