Abstract
Objective: The objective of the research was to determine the frequency of coronal dental morphological features of an Afro-Colombian population sample from San Basilio de Palenque, taking into account the ASUDAS system. Materials and methods: Quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study, with 76 dental models to study individuals (36 men and 40 women) with permanent dentition from the municipality of San Basilio de Palenque aged 11 to 50 years, who have self-recognition certification as Palenqueros , guaranteeing that they have maintained the Palenqueros lineage in their past generations, without orthopedic or orthodontic appliances, without congenital anomalies, without attritions, abfractions or severe abrasions; who were selected for convenience from an intraoral examination. For the selection criteria for the sample, the following parameters were taken into account: 9 morphological features of the ASUDAS system were determined (mesial crest of the canine, shovel shape, hypocone, metacone, metaconule, parastyle, Carabelli tubercle and cusp pattern. Results: The sample made up of representation of 52.6% of the female sex and 47.3% of the male sex. The most representative age group was between 11 and 20 years old. The features with the highest frequency of dental morphological variability are: hypocone, cusp 7, cusp pattern, Carabelli's tubercle and shovel shape. Low frequencies were seen in the metacone, mesial crest of the canine, parastyle and metaconule, where the female sex was more prevalent in most of the traits. Conclusion: The traits with the highest phenotypic frequency within the population of San Basilio de Palenque are the hypoconus with 97.33% which was the most expressed trait in the female sex, peak 7 with a frequency of 75.34% which was the most frequent trait in males and the Carabelli tuber with a percentage of 52%.
