Abstract
Introduction: this research refers to students' perceptions of care for people with psychiatric disorders. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), mental disorders are defined as "a combination of disturbances in thinking, perception, emotions, behaviour and relationships with others"(1). Based on this, it is considered of vital importance to know the perceptions of nursing students, specifically in the area of mental health for the care of people with psychiatric disorders and their respective treatment, taking into account that the aim is to know whether or not the perception of the caregiver influences the way that professional care is given. Objective: To describe the perceptions of nursing students at the Antonio Nariño University regarding the care of persons with a psychiatric diagnosis. Methodology: This project consists of describing the perceptions that nursing students have regarding the care of people with psychiatric disorders. This research has a qualitative focus, which consists of addressing a group of students who are studying the subject of mental health, so that the person who participated can express from his or her point of view the perception that he or she has regarding the care of people with a psychiatric diagnosis. Results: The findings of this research were collected through a semi-structured interview, which was applied to nine students who are studying the subject of mental health, were chosen at random.
