Abstract
Introduction: When speaking of Burnout Syndrome, reference is being made to "the caregiver's burden, mental exhaustion and anxiety in the face of care", this is due to the fact that the caregiver contributes 100% of his life, caring for the person with some alteration of mental origin, thus generating a class of difficulties in their physical health, associated with an accumulation of stressors in most of their lives, that is, if the family member with mental disorder depends entirely on their caregiver, this causes costs to the caregiver are increased.
Objective: To carry out a literature review about the presence of "burnout syndrome" in family caregivers of people diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Methodology: A search was made in different databases and bibliographic sources such as Scielo, Pudmet, University Repositories and Doctoral Theses where inclusive factors in the syndrome were taken into account and how this affected the main caregiver.
Results: 37 bibliographic references were obtained. After reading the title, summary and observing the objectives of this work, there were 27 articles of which were included from countries such as: United States, Colombia, Brazil and Spain, among others, in order to obtain information and clarify the issue already raised in the present investigation.
Conclusions: It was evidenced that there are few studies on burnout syndrome in relatives with patients with schizophrenia.
