Abstract
When children start to develop their expressive language between 2 and 5 years old, stuttering often occurs, which in some cases is a natural stage that children sometimes go through, this dysfunction impact between 5% and 10% of kids. This is not a disease, but a speech disorder, in which, it can sometimes last for a few weeks, or it can even last for several years, affecting their interpersonal relationships, increasing the probability of segregation and the risk of bullying at school.
Speaking is one of the main means of self-expression and influence of children towards others; when this type of dysfunctional disorder is not attended to and evolves over time, these people, both in the following stages of education and in adulthood, will try to interact less and reduce their verbal communication for fear of making mistakes or the ridicule that this entails. The National Institute on Deficiencies and Other Communication Disorders NIDCD (2017), states that: “Stuttering can make it difficult to communicate with others. This can influence a person's quality of life and interpersonal relationships”.
As this disorder progresses, it leads to segregation causing serious emotional and social damage; José Fco. Cervera and Amparo Ygual (2002) express their concerns in the report on educational intervention in stuttering children:
Stutterers suffer the social consequences of their problem and sometimes react with introversion and some isolation, but most want to relate normally with his environment and tries despite the cruelty and lack of understanding towards his problem. (p.3).
The present job is intending to answer: How could industrial design helps children from 3 to 5 years’ old who are starting school, stimulate their expression language and manage to go through this stage of evolutionary stuttering in an indirect and fun way?
