Abstract
The purpose of this research is the construction of a robust meaning of the concept of area and the characterization of the geometric thought involved, in the sixth grade students of the Antonio Nariño Schools, Usme headquarters, Liceo Fesán, El Bosque Bilingüe and Tibabuyes Universal I.E.D. HE designed eleven activities, which were implemented with 176 students. In the process of solving each problem posed, students begin to build the concept of area using their geometric thought operationally, from basic elements of Greek geometry.
