Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by a decrease in the number of nephrons, determined by a decrease in the Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) < 60mL/min/1.73m2, markers of kidney damage or both, for more than three months. (1,2). CKD has a high incidence worldwide. The prevalence is approximately 10 to 16% at any stage. Patients in need of dialysis are approximately 285 to 415 patients per million population with an approximate growth of 8% to 10%, and a mortality rate in dialysis of 20%(3)
