Abstract
The municipality of Riohacha, La Guajira, due to its geographical position, has the highest radiation index in Colombia, in addition, it has few rainy days a year. This quality makes the implementation of a photovoltaic system favorable in this area. The Antonio Nariño University, located in this municipality, has extensive academic sessions that cause the discharge of portable devices and a deficient energy service by the provider company. Therefore, in this project a solar tracker is designed to be applied to a photovoltaic station, increasing its efficiency in the generation of electricity, in order to recharge portable devices which are essential due to the aforementioned problem. For this, information is collected on solar coordinates, radiation indices, atmospheric and geographical conditions of the department. In addition, the necessary calculations are made for the design of the tracker and the photovoltaic system. Obtaining as a result a completely autonomous station, with the ability to power 4 portable devices and the electrical part of the tracker at the same time, for a period of 6 hours a day. The tracker that has a pulley and belt transmission mechanism, which, coupled to the panel, allows it to rotate, orienting it perpendicular to the sun's rays, following the sun from sunrise to sunset.
