Abstract
This article presents the findings of a study on how the ‘Programa de Alimentación Escolar – PAE’ is carried out and how it affects students at two public Educational Institutions in Bogotá, Colombia. The main objective was to establish whether the PAE has promoted or modified good eating habits in the children at IED María Cano and CED Rural de Mochuelo Alto. Using a qualitative approach, data collected from interviews with students, teachers and managers, were processed in AtlasTi to compare and contrast the real dynamics of this Program with its intended purpose as stated in official documents. The results show that the teaching of good eating habits for which the operator ‘Compensar’ was contracted is not being carried out and, on the contrary, the feeding program at the schools with the offered menus does not promote healthy eating habits and results in food waste or reinforces bad eating habits already acquired. In general, the school is not thought of as a space for training healthy eating habits.
