Abstract
During the development of this document, a multitemporal analysis of coverage of the area corresponding to the water mirror of the Tota Lagoon, located in the department of Boyacá, Colombia, considered one of the most important bodies of water in the country, and whose ecosystem has suffered a decrease in the area corresponding to the mirror of water, product of the different socio-economic activities of the region as the sowing of crops of potato and onion among others, by the inappropriate use of fertilizers and other chemicals (Gobernación de Boyacá, 2012, p.5). Taking into account these problems, a comparison is established in the area of the lagoon, between 1989 and 2019, after 30 years. An automated method is described using two Landsat 5 images for the year 1989 and Landsat 8 for the year 2019, by means of a supervised classification with the Erdas 2014 software and later ArcGis 10.5. With the processing of said information the different coverages are obtained and the calculation of the area corresponding to the mirror of water of the lagoon is made, and some coverages near the zone of influence of the body of water. This physical variation becomes evident during the development of the classification, so at the end of this multitemporal study seven were identified (7) areas or points where it becomes more evident the decrease of the area of the mirror of water of the lagoon from the year in reference to the present, the reduction of the area of the mirror of water of the Lagoon of Tota, is 4 Km2 with an initial area of 55.8 Km2 in 1989 and a final area of 51.8 Km2 in 2019.
