Las células madre son indiferenciadas, inmaduras, autorrenovables y tienen la capacidad de producir uno o más tipos de células diferenciadas. Estas células pueden dividirse indefinidamente conservando siempre una población estable de células madre y diferenciarse hacia los distintos tipos de células especializadas de un organismo adulto. Existen varias fuentes de células madre, como sangre de cordón umbilical, médula ósea,
sangre periférica, piel, dientes, placenta, embriones etc. (Evans y Kaufman 1981, Das y col
2008).
Abstract
Stem cells are undifferentiated, immature, self-renewing, and capable of generating one or more types of differentiated cells. These cells can divide indefinitely while always maintaining a stable population of stem cells and differentiate into different types of specialized cells of an adult organism. There are several sources of stem cells, such as umbilical cord blood, bone marrow, peripheral blood, skin, teeth, placenta, embryos, etc.
