Abstract
The main objective of this work was the design and construction of a teaching module for
practice with spur gears. The research design was developed in three phases; each of
these phases located in the three specific objectives respectively. A first basic phase that
will identify learning results raised in the study plans of mechanisms and mechanical design
II on spur gears. A technological surveillance that will improve the identification of at least
two didactic modules that handle gears. This select design criteria; one of them that the
gears could be disassembled for the accomplishment of several practices; Another criterion
was the selected size of the module that allowed it to be manipulated in a practical way,
that is, to be able to take it to a classroom. Another criterion was to design the module so
that the torque given to the assembly of gears was done manually using a crank or
mechanically, with the use of an electric motor. In the design phase, the selected ones
were made, choosing nine spur gears with different numbers of teeth, necessary for the
elaboration of three practices, which were also implemented in this document. The third
phase oriented to construction allows as a final result of this work. As a final conclusion,
this module can be used in the topics of kinematics of gears and gear trains within practical
exercises of the subjects Mechanical design II and mechanisms
