Abstract
This document outlined the need for a foundation study for the Nabors Ring 794 drilling rig, to
provide a nomogram with basic design details to be taken into account when choosing a foundation
slab that can withstand loads of the drill and operating loads when a well is running, under pre-
selected conditions.
At the beginning of the document's framework, the importance of the oil and gas industry in
economic terms is described, and how they have increasingly reached geologically more complex
areas where, due to geotechnical failures, there have been losses and delays in project schedules.
The aforementioned demands a general knowledge about the study of soils, described in the
document as Shear Resistance Tests, SPT, and Ballast modulus to know the soil-structure
interaction.
Subsequently, having the characterization of the soil, concepts necessary for the design of a
foundation slab are exposed such as Bending design, determination of steel, construction
techniques.
Finally, our proposal is presented with the conventional rigid method, which consists of leaving
the ground pressures uniform, and from there the behavior of the foundation slab was analyzed
with the help of the Robot Structural Analysis software (Educational license), to present the
nomogram with characteristics of the design.
