Abstract
For years, splenectomy has been the treatment of choice compared to antibiotic therapy or the use of percutaneous drainage. The following report describes the case of an elderly Brazilian Fila breed female canine with body weakness and loss of appetite. The paraclinical examinations indicate that the patient has iron deficiency anemia and the ultrasound examination indicates the splenic organ with nodular affections, which is why it is suggested that the owners perform total splenectomy, once they enter the operating room, the spleen is removed , adjacent organs are observed and it is determined that they are in good condition, finally several fragments of the organ are sent to the histopathology laboratory and the microscopic findings indicate the presence of hemorrhagic exudate, abscess foci, dermal collagen necrosis with the presence of neutrophilic polymorphonuclear inflammatory infiltrate, which is why the pathologist determined that the condition the patient presented was due to septic splenitis. After the procedure, the patient evolves favorably after surgery.
