Abstract
This work presents the design and construction of a Jominy machine for testing the hardenability of steels, for the materials laboratory of the UAN Bogota south branch. The Comsol software was used to define the technical conditions for electromagnetic induction heating, implementing a commercial induction heating module. The conditions were defined: maximum temperature, approximate heating time and magnetic field generated by the inductor. A water recirculation system was designed and implemented to allow the Jominy test to be performed several times with the same fluid load in the tanks. The design and construction of the machine was carried out under the international standard ASTM A255 for hardening of steel specimens, which guarantees the operating conditions for the heat treatment. SolidWorks software was used for the design of the machine, where a vertical structure was defined that allows coupling both the water flow and recirculation system with the ZVS 2500 heating module and the specimen positioning system with a guaya - pulley system at the top, which performs the downward - upward movement of the specimen, reducing the transport time and ensuring safety when performing the test.
