El presente proyecto de investigación analiza el Centro Histórico de Neiva, Huila,
Colombia, donde se destaca su relación directa entre el Río Magdalena y la Ciudad, mediante
espacios públicos donde la comunidad participa en diferentes actividades comerciales, culturales
y recreativas; A pesar de su potencial, el espacio público enfrenta diferentes desafíos como
subutilización, desapropiación, pérdida de identidad cultural y la falta de cohesión social. Estos
problemas dificultan la articulación entre el borde natural y la ciudad construida, así como las
interacciones sociales y recreativas debido a la falta de organización y seguridad.
Por tanto, para abordar estos desafíos se propuso una metodología de investigación con
un enfoque mixto, que combina datos cuantitativos y cualitativos, permitiendo un mayor
entendimiento del fenómeno involucrando, donde se utiliza una tipología descriptiva para
conocer la relación entre la comunidad y el territorio, permitiendo realizar un acercamiento con
los actores sociales (vendedores formales e informales y transeúntes), además de recopilar
información sobre el uso y desuso del espacio público proporcionando un contexto más
completo.
En consecuencia, de estas problemáticas, se pretende generar una propuesta que facilite la
articulación entre el espacio público existente y el nuevo diseño, con el objetivo de una
consolidación a través de un tratamiento de renovación urbana y una metodología de
sostenibilidad, dando como resultado que sea un espacio público más seguro, inclusivo y
atractivo que fomente la interacción social, la actividad económica y la apropiación cultural del
Centro Histórico de Neiva.

Abstract
The present research project analyzes the Historic Center of Neiva, Huila,
Colombia, where its direct relationship between the Magdalena River and the City is
highlighted, through public spaces where the community participates in different
commercial, cultural and recreational activities; Despite its potential, the public space
faces different challenges such as underutilization, disappropriation, loss of cultural
identity and lack of social cohesion. These problems hinder the articulation between the
natural edge and the built city, as well as social and recreational interactions due to the
lack of organization and security.
Therefore, to address these challenges, a research methodology with a mixed
approach was proposed, which combines quantitative and qualitative data, allowing a
better understanding of the phenomenon involved, where a descriptive typology is used
to know the relationship between the community and the territory, allowing an approach
with social actors (formal and informal vendors and passers-by), in addition to
collecting information on the use and disuse of public space providing a more complete
context.
As a result of these problems, we intend to generate a proposal that facilitates
the articulation between the existing public space and the new design, with the objective
of a consolidation through a treatment of urban renewal and a methodology of
sustainability, resulting in a safer, more inclusive and attractive public space that
promotes social interaction, economic activity and cultural appropriation of the Historic
Center of Neiva.
