Abstract
The objective of this postgraduate thesis is to know the Narratives of a young adult woman
about her experience of suffering abuse in childhood. It was grace with the presence of a
30-year-old woman, a mother of a family, a resident of the city of Popayán, accepting her
participation with the signing of the informed consent. The achievement of this proposal
was carried out through an open interview, in an extent of three sessions, which were
recorded in audio and transcribed literally. These interviews led to an inductive categorical
analysis, giving rise to four categories, which were called: Meanings attributed to the
consumption of alcohol and domestic violence; Meanings attributed to the characteristics of
parental relationships; Meanings attributed to social networks as a motivational factor and
Meanings attributed to the impact generated by abandonment. The previous categories
allowed the achievement of the proposed objectives; and these expose the negative impact
of childhood abuse and the consequences in her life. For example, the intergenerational
transmission of abuse is one of those sequels. Finally, it was found that the participant uses
some coping strategies, such as support networks, study and religion, in order to lessen the
impact that this problem has caused in her life.
