Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to approach the social issue of gender based violence, particularly,
addressing the intimate partner violence type. The methodology used was documentary review
with a hermeneutic approach, seeking to pinpoint the body of ideas about the contribution of the
theory of psychoanalysis on the understanding of violence against women, specifically from the
Lacanian perspective. The analysis, was done by defining the meaning of the concept violence
And analyzing it in relation to the violence against women from the point of view of the
aggressor, the act of violence and couple elationships with which were established the search
categories: 1. psychoanalysis contributions about the understanding of violence against women’s
issue from the aggressor’s perspective 2. psychoanalysis contributions about the understanding
of the violent act in the relationship. Which represent the 50 texts that, constituted the
bibliography. The outcome was as follows: the review of the notion of violence gives it a place
outside the word, likewise, in some cases the act of the aggressor against women would be
located as an act without a word, outside the symbolic. Along with the concept of "outside the
symbolic" was found the feminine jouissance, which, is feared for that same characteristic, a fear
that can reach the limits of violence, another factor of great importance is the relevance given to
the unconscious, in the choice of both the choosing of the loving partner, and its influence on the
aggressive act, the hypothesis was compiled that, in the absence of the father's role as transmitter
of the masculine signifier , the passage to the violent act with the partner, would be the way to
respond to what was not symbolized, being the masculine sexist cultural precepts that still
predominate, a way of imaginatively filling the absence.
